Last night was our younger chickens first night in the coop with the flock. We did a whole process, separated in the run for weeks, fully immersed with the flock in the run for over a month but sleeping in their small baby brooder. We had attempted to put them in the coop at night a couple times but if any of the 'bigs' pecked right away, we'd wait and try again. In the run (which is huge) we haven't had any issues other than the usual peck and chase here & there in the beginning & the occasional 'get out of here' peck for a big while eating.

Last night I put the younger ones in the coop and they were all great! Settled in together, no pecks or speaks or kerfuffles. I checked a few times & all cool as can be.

This morning they were all below in the closed run area. One of the younger ones had some blood on her beak. No one was going at her or pecking or seemed to be trying to bug her.

I'm stumped and trying to sort out if it was from another chicken or not & if I can put them in the coop again tonight

To me it looks as if she abraded the beak against wire fencing or perhaps a metal feeder. I don't think it's the result of aggression, but would monitor closely today just in case.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering that too. The run under the coop has hardware cloth & some pavers. I'm wondering if she tried to snag a bug between one of those and got it that way. Or even if one of the older girls was bugging her if she scraped it trying to scurry away.

She seems totally fine and normal & no one is pecking or bothering her. So I'm hopeful that it was maybe just that. Thanks!
