I’m a first time chicken owner. One of my three 13 week old Pullets has an injury on her beak. So, my post questions the injury and cause—-and the possibility of separating the injured bird. Help!

I noticed the wound on the beak as simply discolored but upon inspecting it closer it seems like the surface is broken, and looks painful. It does not seem to be affecting her eating or behavior at all. Based on these pictures, I’d really love to know if it’s from an injury, or by pecking from another chicken in the flock.

After reading about separating injured chickens, I’d really like to know how to do that with our coop arrangement. We have 3 pullets in a 30 sq ft coop/ run combo. We let them out at dawn, and free range during the day, so I don’t think any pecking has to do with space. To separate chickens with injuries or to correct pecking do I need to have another run/ coop set up? How long do the need to be separated and what do I do to keep them apart during the day?

And any advice on how to treat this wound, and how long it might take to heal.

That injury may be something self inflicted. Accidental of course. Maybe got caught in the wire hardware cloth surroundings.
No need to separate this chicken.:highfive:.. Only time to separate injured chickens is, 1, when injury is an open wound, that other chickens would peck at. 2, when chicken is sick, and can possibly infect other chickens with whatever she is sick with. 3, If chicken is being bullied by other chickens really severely. You may have a project on your hands at that time.

That wound should heal on its own without any intervention.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

I think she must've scraped or bumped her beak for that to happen. I don't think you need to separate her unless the other chickens are pecking at it.
Just make sure the wound stays clean. If it hurts her to the point of not eating well, you can give her a mash of chicken food and water in a deep dish so she doesn't bump her nose.
