I have 2, 4 month old hens and 5 baby chick about 21/2 mo. old. Yesterday when I got home from work and did my daily head count, one of the chick was missing. I found her injured and hiding in a corner where the hens could not harm her. She has an injury on her back, that I believe will heal nicely in about a week. I have separated her from the others. she is eating and drinking and making lots of noise. One of her legs is injured. I can tell if it's broken or not. She can stand up on both legs, but falls down when she tries to wak. Will her leg recover. What can I do to help her???

Some time take feel the leg from the toes up and feel for a obvious break or crepitus ( kind of a grinding feel/ noise). If it is broke and not too displaced from each end it will likely heal very well if you keep her in a small pen so she can move around but not too much. She may have a limp but she should be fine.

If the bone ends are very displaced it may never heal and then she will have a big problem. A vet should be able to radiograph her leg if you want to go that route. Good luck and let us know how she does.
