I had two hens for about a year. I got each at 3 months old. (Two barred rock) I had plans on introducing three more chickens a couple days ago that I had purchased. While I was out getting the new chickens a dog in with the old chickens. One was dead and the other was extremely startled and laying on her side (I think she injured a wing.)
Well obviously I couldn't throw three new girls in with her, so I removed her from the coup and left the three new girls to have the coup.
My injured girl has been in my bathtub for a few days and I tried introducing the chickens to each other. Seems that none of the new girls like her. It would be bad enough having one dominant of the three new trying to establish pecking order, but it seems all three want to bully her.
Now I have a resident in my bathtub and I need to get her out. Any tips on them getting along.
I realize at night they are dopey... But they already know each other and I fear they'll just be back at it in the morning.
How many days is enough days to consider this bird beyond and soreness from the dog attack also?

For a laugh here is my spoiled hen in the bathtub.

Aww, poor baby! What has worked for me (and was recommended by my mom who has been keeping chickens for about 20 years) was fencing off a section of the coop and putting the new chicken in there for a week or two. I use that green plastic fencing stuff and garden stakes. The chickens can see through the fencing and it helps them get uses to her (I still kept my newb in the barn at night and transferred her in and out by hand, if you have a small chicken house I imagine that would be easier). Then let them together after a couple weeks and see how they do.

When I introduced one of my chickens I was letting them all run around my whole yard so there was lots of room for the newbie to run away if she was being picked on, this seemed to help. She was injured when I got her and I think the others picked on her more because of that, she took a long time to be integrated. I've introduced a new chicken two other times and it didn't take as long. Still seems to take a while for all the girls to work out they're okay with each other. :)
