My little silkie was limping yesterday and when I picked her up I noticed her toe was bleeding. At first I thought it was bleeding at the base of the nail but it’s actually part of the tow above the nail. It’s pretty flimsy, basically hanging on by a thread.

I’m not sure how this happened, but other than limping she does not seem to be in pain. I washed her foot off with warm soapy water and put a bandage on it with Neosporin.

Today I took off the bandage and there wasn’t much blood on it and it’s no longer bleeding but I’m not really sure what to do to help her at this point. I put Neosporin and another bandage on it this evening and she is no longer limping, but I don’t know if I should take her to a vet or just see if it will heal?

I’ve included pictures for reference!

It should heal, but it will be sore and take a couple of weeks. Is the toe hanging by skin or the nail? I would probably soak her foot daily in warm epsom salts water in a little dish pan. Then reapply the ointment.

Thank you guys for your responses! I’m going to continue to monitor it and put ointment on it and soak in daily, hopefully that’ll do that trick!
