We are syringe feeding our injured chicken who refuses to drink or eat. How much should we be feeding her . We give her droppers full and she will only tolerate us giving her a little food . I don’t know when to stop and how often ect . She is getting pretty small now . She’s been injured since Sunday. How much food and water should she get .

How is she sick, what are her symptoms?

Is she pooping? Is there blood in it? How did she get injured, what kind of injury? She might have internal and can't eat. More info please so we can help better.

Well she isn’t really sick, she was attacked by a hawk and her eyes have both swelled shut and and it looks like it went after her comb area as well. I try to introduce food to her but she won’t eat on her own. Ofcoarse she can’t see so that doesn’t help. I dip her beak in water and she doesn’t do anything , same with food . So we have been using a syringe for water and squirting food in her mouth. I just don’t know how much we should be giving her at a time and thru out the day . What amount a food do chickens need to survive . I don’t want to over or under feed .

Oh dear. She might have a head injury / brain injury, and most likely crushing injuries. If she is still not eating this far out, I hate to say it but it sounds like it may be time to put her down.

Typically they eat about 1/4 lb of food a day and Id say probably drink close to a cup of water a day. if not more. Her water needs of course are going to be less now since she is not eating as much but still.

I still have hope, I did see her cleaning herself the other day and one eye is opening up now. She sure seems to be pretty strong as she almost flew out of my husbands arms yesterday as we were nursing her up . Hopefully those are good signs. Thank you for the response on how much to give her , that will help so much . Hopefully if we get the right amount nutrients in her and those eyes heal up and she will be back to herself. Ofcoarse I am prepared if the other happens. Poor bird 😞

If she's not eating the right amount, Id not be too pushy on the forcing her. That could make her sicker. If you have some liquid super vitamins or something, Id put it in the water she's force fed rather than trying to shove a lot of food down her face. If she's opening her eyes now that's a good sign, so is the trying to fly off, but she still needs to be eating much more than she is. Hopefully this is a sign she's getting better and not the 24 hour ok the other side of the candle is lit now.
