My Buff Orpington got hit by a car today, which makes me really sad, but also really mad that someone would do that and not even stop. I didn't think she would make it 5 minutes, as her breathing was really crunchy and she wasn't moving. One side of her face is bruised and may have an eye injury. I sprayed her face with Vetericyn, because it works so well on things like this! I brought her in, put her in one of my parrots travel cages with a heat lamp and let her rest for awhile. I gave her a drop of Rescue Remedy on her beak, then put some in her water. I rubbed Lavendar Essential Oil on the bottom of her feet to calm her. After awhile, she was up and around, but I'm giving her water from a dropper.

After she had rested, I checked her out and saw a nice rip at the top of her wing. I sprayed it with Vetericyn and hope that it will stay together enough to heal. I also put a paste of cayenne pepper on the rip to help with pain.

I was wondering if there is anything else I might be able to do for her. I'm in the Ashland City area. Don't know if you have a good chicken vet.

Poor girl! Hopefully the person didn't even know they hit her. I doubt anyone would be heartless enough to hit a pet and keep going hut maybe they didn't notice or thought she was a wild bird. Most people don't know a chicken from a pigeon and it doesn't occur to everyone that we love these birds as pets. Good luck to you both! Hope she recovers!

I've seen a truck speed up to try to hit them. People around here shoot dogs. There is no way they didn't know they hit her. Just horrible people. I've been trying to rig their pen so they can't get out, but I guess I'm not there yet. They just recently decided to start going into and across the road.

Maybe the people think you're allowing them to roam and are annoyed by It. Who kmows. I will shoot a dog if it gets through my perimeter and threatens my chickens but otherwise I can't imagine killing an animal on purpose for no justifiable reason. I hope your girl recovers!

Not to be rude, but I came looking for help, not comments and opinions. Why can't people s t ay on topic and just help each I ther. It doesn't help me for people to comment on what my neighbor's might be thinking.

My thoughts exactly! I've posted a few times asking for help with my injured chicken and all I got was this? I'm stressed out band worried but not ONE person has offered any helpful advice to help my chicken survive, which is what I need. Everything else just doiesnt help right now. Like I said, not trying to be rude, just looking for one thing, some decent advice. I'm so disappointed.
