Hi earlier today I was rounding up the quail to go inside their new pen which was completed today. During the process of rounding them up one of my females hit her head and tore her skin. I could see her skull but the skin was still in tact in order for me to mend it back together. I got some thread and a needle and stitched it up in 3 places. Hopefully she will be ok but I am afraid of infections or further damage but I wanted to take action immediately as it was bad. Any tips or other things I could do for her? She is isolated right now by the way. Another thing I need to mention is that there is blood coming out of her nostrils but not much and it is clotting to prevent dripping. Please help.....

Ok.... I went out there this morning and she is still alive so it Is looking better. I know it sounds quite harsh about the stitching but her skin flap was completely folded back on her head... If I hadn't have stitched it up she would have died for sure..... Thanks for the reassurance and I hope it all works out.......

The way I look at it, whatever sort of vet care (however amateur it may be) you give a $2 bird is good care. Honestly I'd of shipped it to freezer camp, so that bird is lucky you own it. I grew up on a farm though so I don't have the same feelings about livestock that most do.

I'd get an antibiotic spray on it like neosporin just makes sure there is no painkiller in it. Outside of that, there isn't a thing you can do that you haven't. ointment works as well as spray but that spotll be sore which is why I suggest either foam or spray.

Be aware sometimes badly injured animals just give up and quit on you, if this happens there is nothing more you can do.

Good luck.

Ok, my quail are for meat and eggs but I haven't gotten any eggs out of me yet and they are medium sized currently so I figured I could give her a chance....... I'd like to be able to benefit from her as much time as I have put into them....... Thanks
