Hello so this morning i woke up to my 1 year & 9 months old male duck. I woke up to his bill literally a piece gone. I have no idea what he could’ve done to hurt himself. Maybe a stick i don’t know. But i’ve been cleaning up the wound all day and also adding vetericyn plus antimicrobial poultry care. But was wondering if there is anything else i can put on his bill that would help heal. Or what can i use to clean it so it won’t get infected i’m afraid water
won’t clean so much. I posted some pictures down after i cleaned it all day. It seems to still have some bleeding. So if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it !

clean it out with some warm water and then use hydrogen peroxide. Put some neosporin on it as well. One of my neigbors Duck had that happen and that’s what she did and he’s doing amazing now. Hope he feels better fast!

do i get the neosporin non medicated one and thank you

Use peroxide only once since it can damage healthy tissue if used more.
Was your duck inside her coop when this happend or outside. Looks like something might have bit her.

I'm very sorry this happened to your duck.

Please get Neosporin, or any off brand antibiotic ointment, without pain relievers. They end in "caine," like lidocaine. My duck had a much less severe bill injury. I took her to an avian vet and they recommended I put a thin layer of antibiotic ointment on the injury twice daily. They told me to keep the bill clean, provide clean water, and a clean area. It took a long time for her bill to heal, but her vets were happy with her progress at her checkups. I am unaware of this same treatment should be used for your duck, as mine scraped her bill on fencing and yours looks more like an animal bit him.

Hydrogen peroxide used to be used to clean wounds, but there have been studies done that show it delays healing.

thank you just put some neosporin this morning. We checked out cameras and turns out she got stuck on the fence and pulled away and she got cut. I’ll update when it starts healing thank you
