Yesterday something got a hold of my baby duck's leg and ripped the whole leg out of it's socket. It let us wash him up and clean the wound. I wrapped it with a bandage and kept it in a cage inside. It eats and drinks and wobbles a little but not a whole lot. I don't know how old it is I do know that it is starting to get it's adult feathers. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

your going to have to get a vet for this one. it has to have the leg put back in the socket and asap. and rethink your security because what ever tried to pull your duckling through what ever you had it in will be back. You could try to put the leg back in the socket but I am thinking this is going to be very painful and a vet can use a mild sedative to do it.

Im sorry I meant that the leg is completely gone. No stump or anything. Just a hole.

Wow, that's amazing that it didn't lose a lot of blood. If he's not in pain and bleeding, I don't think there's much to do except make sure the "hole" heals up and doesn't get infected. He might be OK hopping around on one leg if he's up to it.

Oh my gosh it's a wonder it didn't bleed to death. something tried to pull that baby threw the fence . hardware cloth up 2-3' will take care of that. raccoons are notorious for this. How is the duckling doing. flies will get into that wound and cause an awful time please keep the baby inside away from flies till completely healed.

He didn't make it. Though it is sad i am glad he went being taken care of then being taken and eaten alive. We secured the coop better so hopefully no more incidents anytime soon. Thank you every one for your comments, they were much appreciated.
