Wednesday my duckling jumped out of the sink and landed on the floor.
Ever since she hasn’t been able to walk, she pushes straight back, can’t turn herself over, and has zero balance. We’ve been to the vet, she has a compressed spine and a possible soft break to her ribs. I’ve been doing physical therapy with her to keep legs strong. So we put her in the tub last night, and at first I thought she was doing pretty good. But the vet questioned her swimming in circles. So now I’m even more concerned. She isn’t showing signs of improvement. The vet gave us different medicine today and we have another appointment on Tuesday if there’s no improvement. I’m attempting to upload a video of them swimming. Has anyone else seen a duckling do this? I put her in the tub today for more swim time and she freaked out (her siblings weren’t with her so I don’t know if that spooked her). She seems to be losing buoyancy. I’ll spend what it takes to fix her. I just want her to get better.

I have no answers, but it looks like she needs her siblings to support her while she swims.

Aww bless that look like possibly neurological with swimming in circles. Did she hit her head when she fell? Are you supplementing with any Niacin for your little ones.
Did the vet say that the compression could cause the duckling to lit and swim in circles? What meds are you giving?

I agree about the tub and why she was most likely scared they get so use to being 1 flock they do not like being separated and her flock gives her comfort and support.

I sure hope your vet and figure out what is going on and fix her. :hugs

I was turned the other way putting one of her siblings in their basket when she fell, so I’m not sure if she hit her head. If she did, does it get better over time? Any treatment recommendations? Couldn’t that also be another reason she lost her balance and can’t walk?

We’re giving her nutri-drench, b complex, and 2 steroids. Should I add niacin?

I'd think she may have hit her head. But maybe the compressed spine maybe doing this too. A vet I am not. What does the vet have her on? meds is it for pain? Metacam?

How is she doing eating and drinking? Only thing I can rec is to make sure she is getting feed and water and are you supplementing with B Complex it is another good way to treat neurological issue sometimes it's not from an injury but sure can't hurt putting some over a small amount of peas or dried meal worms so she gets full dose. Anything that may help. And please let us know what the vet says tomorrow.

Sure hoping she gets over this but it may take a little time so try not to get discouraged. :hugs
