She was freaking being away from sisters and so were they so i did set her in bed with them and in am ill move her to small space. trying my best to chicken mom.got an xray. broken toe and another almost broke
My 7 week old chick was startled running away from us when we were trying to put them up from a bit of free roaming and she was limping. left is alone to heal for about a week and she didn’t get better. her toes were curled in and she was stepping on the top of foot so tonight we made her a flat surface for her foot out of several clued together popsicle sticks. then we wrapped it with some vet wrap. tried to do it snug but not tight. she is eating and drinking but i dobt really know what is wrong so i think ill call the rural vet for some xrays and suggestions so i can di what us best for her.
Is her hock joint swollen too?got an xray. broken toe and another almost broke
hi @Wyorp Rock , i almost tagged you theirger day and appreciate your input. You are right on surface. in fact we did move her after this video to a non slip service. I dont believe hock joint is swollen. if so, vet missed it too. the vet splinnted it by taping to the side of toe a light plastic cylinder from a syringe. she then wrapped it pretty loosely. Im to check it in 5-7 days and then 5-7 more. She said it could take 4-6 weeks to fully heal but chicks heal faster than adults. Is her hock joint swollen too?
If it's only the toe broken, you can either leave it alone and just let it heal or you can splint the foot. There's a splinting manual below.
I would suggest keeping her on a surface this is not slick while she heals. In the video the leg is pointing outward at an awkward position, take note if you splint the foot, if she's able to stand up straighter with her leg in line. I would worry about the leg being out at an angle like that.
I've had birds with broken toes and they did not stand like that, just kept the foot tucked a bit, but when they walked, they limp gingerly on the foot with a normal stance.

I'm sure she's wanting to be free LOLWell she has managed twice to find a way out of the little area i made her to limit her movement into maybe a 4ft by 4 ft area with her sisters. i was at work late today and my husband said she escaped to be with her friends and he didn’t have the heart to put her back. It has to be done, its for her own benefit. i gave her calcium today as suggested and she is no longer dragging her foot behind her. I think this is going to work out and shell heal.
no one, i meant vitamin b complex. should i be giving her calcium?I'm sure she's wanting to be free LOL
Hopefully she'll heal up quickly.
Who suggested Calcium?
Oh, I see LOLno one, i meant vitamin b complex. should i be giving her calcium?
