Injured foot

I have a rooster that has an injured foot. It may be bad case of frostbite. He’s limping and seems very painful. How do I check it and what should I do for him.
we live in so. California, didn’t think I needed to worry about temps getting that low to cause damage.

How cold has it been?
You could try putting him in a crate with his own food and water so that he isn't walking on the foot. Could you upload a picture?
