Hey all.... We have our three 3 week old goslings in a front open brooder that has an access door that we can close and secure at night, during the day they are allowed out into a 15x40 run with lots of grass and a small pool... The have done wonderfully, on cold night (still gets around 40-50 here) we turn on their heat lamp and they can get under or move away freely... When I went out this morning to let them out one of the Goslings looks to have gotten her leg caught in a small gap in the bottom of the door.. There is one small open spot on the back of her leg but otherwise her joint and back of her foot looks swollen. She can hold her weight and take a few steps but she isn't running as normal. I took her and cleaned her leg and also her backside as there was some dried poo from being stuck overnight.. I put down some fresh hay with food and water close and she is doing ok, she got up to sit with her mates in the sun...

I have to be gone all day today... question, should I secure her back in the pen for the day or would she be ok in the run, it is pred proof with netting and heavy gauge fencing.

I worried about that door as there was a small gap at the bottom but hubby assured me all would be well.... Guess who is fixing that door tonight when he gets home before he gets to eat dinner

She probably won't like being separated from her flock so either close them all up or leave her out. She may hurt herself worse trying to get to the other 2. I see this has been posted a while back so what did you decide. try soaking her leg and foot in some warm Epsom salt water half cup to 1 quart of water a small bucket will work, I usually put both feet in since it's easier. you'll have to hold her still and try for 5 mins each time you soak,. don't let her drink the water since ES is also a laxative. After soaking and drying you could use some triple antibiotic salve or neosporin on the wound just don't use anything with pain relief in it.

No, she didn't like it... I decided to soak her leg in Epson salt before I left so I am glad you suggested that also... I didn't put anything on it as I didn't have it handy... When I came home at 4pm she was up running around with her hatch mates.. Albeit alittle slower and with a slight limp but the swelling is for sure down..
