In the Brooder
We have a hen who we removed from the flock because her head was badly injured, we think from our rooster mounting her. We cleaned her up, let her heal up for a few days and tried to introduce her back into the flock. We let them out of the run to free range this afternoon and let her out with them. Our rooster ran over to her immediately and started attacking her. We separated them and tried to let the coexist for a while longer. He rounded up the other ladies and she started to go back into the run with them and he started attacking her again. We got him away and brought her back inside since he ripped open her head again. So- question is, what's the next step? We have been considering getting rid of the rooster since he has become increasingly aggressive towards us and now his hens. He seems to do his job though and when they free range, he seems to take care of them, with the exception of this instance. What's the best option for our ladies? Will they be ok without him? Do we keep trying to reintroduce the injured bird? (We've named her blu sense we sprayed her with the blu kote to hide her wound)
