On Friday evening (5 days ago) my 2 year old Barred Rock hen was attacked by a hawk. When it happened I chased the hawk away and quickly brought her inside the house. She had a couple small scrapes on her leg, a small cut on her comb and her eye had some clear, blood tinged liquid coming from it. I have been keeping her inside the house in a large dog crate. She wouldn’t eat on Friday after the hawk attack. Saturday morning she ate a tiny bit of food. She didn’t eat again until Sunday night. Since Sunday night she has been eating small amounts of food only if I hand feed them to her. She will eat just a little bit and then looses interest. She will only eat scratch (corn and wheat), and scrambled egg, and ate a tiny bit of lettuce. Since Saturday night her poop has been bright green! I don’t know what else to do for her. I also am now having to clean green poop off her butt.

I have some apple cider vinegar in her water, and she has had a small amount of honey diluted with water (from honey fermented garlic) on scrambled egg each day.

Does anyone have any advice on what else I should do for her? I am so worried about her.

Extra side note, we had an ice storm over the weekend and it’s still pretty icy here. The nearest vet that sees chickens is over an hour away.

Do you have any pictures of the eye, comb and other wounds? I would irrigate the eye with saline and apply triple antibiotic ointment into the eye twice a day. I would offer some plain water, and make a wet mash of her balanced chicken feed and water with a bit of egg up to her beak. If you have or can get Poultry NutriDrench you can offer 1 ml twice a day orally. If she will not eat when you dip her beak into the wet food, you can try torpedo feeding or tube feeding. Torpedo feeding is to mix feed crumbles with a little raw egg and water to make a small torpedo shaped bite into her beak to swallow. She could have suffered internal injuries which are causing a decreased appetite. Check her crop before each feeding to make sure that she is digesting. It should be empty and flat first thing in the morning, then fill with food and water during the day. The green poop is due to her not eating.

I will get some pictures of her eye and comb today. Her comb looks pretty good to me. She opens her eye some but her eyelid has a little swelling around it still.
I made a wet mash with her scratch yesterday, which she will eat a little of as long as I hold it in my hand in front of her beak. I will try making a wet mash with her regular food.
This morning her crop felt empty but was really saggy and floppy feeling.
I don’t have any poultry NutriDrench but I can look online and see if I can maybe order some or maybe see about trying to get to a store to get some today or tomorrow. I cooked her more scrambled eggs, how much scrambled egg can she safely eat without it being an issue?
After the hawk attack I did my best to look through her feathers to see if there were any other wounds, I never found any more, but it’s kind of hard to look at every inch of skin with all of the feathering. I am worried about internal injury.
Do you think that bringing one of her flock members in the house would help encourage her?

The balance of her chicken feed is best for her. Scratch has too little protein and lacks the balanced nutrients. She can have part of an egg if she will eat some mash. I have fed a whole soft scrambled egg to hens who won’t eat anything else, but the feed is best for her. Most feed stores will sell Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell. There are other electrolyte/vitamin mixes as well, but those are handy to directly give a dose to an injured or weak/shocky chicken. Let us know how she is getting along.

This is her comb and eye. She does open the eyelid some. And her eye inside looks ok.

Also, I have a packet of Sav-A-chick Electrolyte vitamin supplement, I bought it about three years ago, do you think that would help until I can find NutriDrench?
