Injured hen

Well we've got her on her feet again. She's still a bit skinny.

Now the problem is the other girls are mean to her.

She was in the house for several days.

Any ideas?

Yep, move them all to new digs for a few days and then move them back again. Keep them locked up together and when they move they are all so 'taken' with the new digs, and what does this mean, and will we be safe etc., that they may not notice the 'new'girl anymore. Just a thought, and it's what I would do.

Once she's strong and on their feet, let them fight it out. They have to re establish pecking order and if you interfere it may drag out the process.

I would feed her the following on a daily basis until she is back to full health,

moistened bread
shredded lettuce
meat
fish

She was actually wanting to get out of her cage this morning!!

I'm keeping a close watch though.

I'm hoping to move my broody to that cage before her eggs get here.
They're picking on her too.

Meant to say, that the shredded lettuce etc., is in addition to corn and wheat which she should have free choice to at all times. You could also put some milk on the bread, say every second day, and you could also soak some wheat in a mix of honey and molasses, let it sprout and then give it to her in a bowl with any excess liquid as the wheat will continue to soak it up.

Hope she gets well soon, maybe you should get another cage set up for your broody - just in case

Oh I've got another cage. It just has the smaller holes in the bottom and would be more difficult to clean.

She seems to be doing fine. If I put her back in a cage I think I'll make a surround of some sort so she can come out though. They just love thier dirt baths. I'll prob try to do it for the soon to be mama too.

I've only ever fed layer feed and some cracked corn for treat once a day. LOL we call it "chicken crack"
Some oyster shells too.

If I run out I'm in trouble.

I've never fed lettuce or wheat.

Scraps sometimes.

When she first got hurt she got honey water and yogurt everyday.
