I have one of the tall rectangular water stations with the little red cups. I really like it for my young birds run but had a scare yesterday. I was doing my rounds to check on food and water stations and I looked over towards this particular water container and I saw what looked like my young houdan upside down so I ran into the run and her leg was caught up in the swivel hanger arm. The arm was attached to the fence and it looked like she tried to perch on top but got her leg caught and fell down. She was on the side with her leg caught on the side between the arm and the container. I brought her inside for the night and gave her a Epson salt soak and left her sleep in a crate with shavings. Her leg didn’t appear broken just bruised and sore! She didn’t put much pressure on it last night but this morning is walking on it with a slight limp so it is a huge improvement, thank goodness!
It was an hour that I didn’t check on them yesterday till I found her, so within that hour she did this. I can’t imagine if it would have been longer and her struggling to get free. So I just wanted to warn everyone to watch with these types of water containers. I moved mine to blocks and leave the arm hand behind the container against the fence.

Could you post a picture of the waterer? Glad to hear that your chicken is recovering. We found a young pullet hanging upside down after getting her leg caught in the handle on top of a galvanized metal waterer that had been left upright. If we hadn’t found her after only a few minutes, she may have been severly injured or died. They tend to fight trying to escape, and then give up. I hope that she recovers completely.

It’s this one that I bought from TS...

no wonder I just use the rubber feed dishes for their waters, glad your chick is ok and healing. I started using those due to how cold it gets in the winter time and don't even use the chick feeders cause had a chick get her head caught in one, ended up cutting it apart, thank heavens they were plastic to get her unstuck
