Hi my 6 1/2 week old mini Nubian goat hurt his leg tonight. I’m a nurse and am currently working night shift. Won’t be home until 8 in the morning. I’ve been staying with my parents(my dads sick) and so have my 2 bottle baby mini nubians. At time through the day the goats will go outside in a large dog exercise pen 4 feet high. I got a text from my mom tonight that one of the goats Cocoa must have tried to jump out and he was hanging upside down by his foot from the top of the exercise pen. Now he won’t put weight on it and it’s swollen. I asked her to ice it she did and said the swelling went down a little. She said he is eating and seems as energetic as ever but I’m just worried if it is broken will he be ok until the morning? Or will he develop a blood clot? Or wil there be permanent damage? God I wish I could leave work but I just can’t. I feel so awful

Probably it will be fine even if it is broken. Chances are he strained it. It is unlikely it is broken but if he puts any weight on it at all, it is definitely not broken.

Let us know how little Cocoa is today, OK?
I don't have goats, but many years ago my dog got in the same predicament - hanging by one leg after getting stuck in the fence. Very scary, but there was no lasting damage and he healed up just fine. I hope your little Cocoa has no lasting damage as well.
Sounds like your Mom followed your instructions and did the same as you would have done if you'd been able to be there, even though I know how awful it feels to be stuck at work and helpless when an emergency happens at home.
Thanks for all you do as a nurse. In the past, many of us haven't realized how important you are when it comes to maintaining the health of all of us. But we sure do now.
So thank you, and all my best to you, Cocoa, your parents, other goats.
