Hey y’all, I’m new to this site. I have always Gone here for advice on my ducks when questions arise. I have two adult female peking’s and one sweetish blue who is a drake. Recently I’ve had some bad luck with my females. About two mo the ago one of them couldn’t walk out of nowhere so I Immediately looked on this site to see if I would be able to find answers. I did everything I saw other people doing that seemed to be in the same predicament as I and she is now able to keep up with the others. Unfortunately this morning when I went to check on them my other Peking female walked 10 feet out of their coop and fell down on her chest squawking so loud. She is using her wings to get around due to not being able to put pressure on her left leg, and her foot is folding in like a flower that’s dying off. I’m wondering if you can tell if her leg is out of joint or something? PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your duck, some more info would be of many help, how old is she, what is she being fed, whats their pen area like, do you see any swelling or bumblefoot underneath her feet, do her legs feel warm? A picture or video of your duck walking would be very helpful too.

I would have gotten back sooner but I’m not very good with Technology so I have been trying to figure out how to reply back to you for hours. Thank you so much for reaching out to try and help me. Our family has had ducks for only a couple years now, so we have some knowledge of them but we are no pro at this! The injured female is 3 years old. There is no swelling or Bumblefoot. Legs feel normal temperature to me. She doesn’t like when you get to close let alone touch her so it’s been rough trying to figure this out. We feed them DuMor poultry 16% layer feed (crumbles) calcium fortified. They get tomatoes, greens, and meal worms for snacks. I have been putting b-12 plus vitamin K liquid and brewers yeast tablets in her water. I am keeping our one drake separated from the two females. We bought our females together as babies and they don’t leave each others sides. I’m trying to figure out how to put a video on here of our setup and of her trying to walk. She don’t move around much. I’m checking in on her frequently but keep my distance so she stays calm.

I just started that as of this morning. He is super aggressive. We adopted him as a yearling. He was so sweet then. We had three females and then lost one to a predator. I believe he injured the other female a couple months ago. I’m pretty sure he caused a spinal injury of some kind. She couldn’t walk at all when it first happened. She is getting around pretty good now. A bit slower moving than the others but seems happy.

Then def keep him up there are quite a few member that have to keep their drake separated to protect their females. Hopefully with rest she’ll get back on her feet. Maybe start giving her some liquid BComplex it’s so good for leg health and sure wouldn’t hurt to support during recovery. Pekins legs really can use extra help anyway they are such a heavy breed it takes it toll on their legs
