Duck came home after weeks on the lake without his partner and bleeding with exposed flesh on neck. About 1.5" of flesh showing and pink, healthy looking. Do i need to medicate it?

Does it look like a fresh wound? maybe just put some thing like neo w/o pain or if you have it Veterycin spray for wounds and infection. Vitamins for support. and lots of TLC. Did the pred get his partner? So sorry for your loss. and hisDuck came home after weeks on the lake without his partner and bleeding with exposed flesh on neck. Poor guy, I hope he heals up. I hope he is going into a secure pen till he heals up. what ever got his mate and almost got him will be back you know.Just chased him down and sprayed first aid spray on neck. Lilla like jist all 'fur' on neck is ripped clean
That kind of injury should be seen by a vet, if you can't afford a vet then put him into a secure enclosure with clean bedding and fresh food and water with poultry vitamins in it, dress his wounds first by washing, if you can put him into a clean tub with warm water he may clean himself if not still in shock, if in shock he may drown so don't. but his wounds need to be cleran out with soap and warm water then trim the feather as best you can and apply either neosporin w/o pain relief. his wing may heal it may not is the bone sticking out? if not you might could set it by using vet wrap and putting it close to the body in normal position when they are standing. make sure the vet wrap doesn't cut off circulation. Ducks are amazing animals and can come back for very serious injuries, so don't give up unless you just feel his injuries are beyond repair, only you can determine that. Also you may want to put him on an oral antibiotic[ Penicillin] in his drinking water, you can get it at a feed store.Hi I was looking for advice about an injured muscovey male duck. I was wondering if you were successful in treating yours. My male has several wounds down to the muscle a broken wing. He is moving around, I'm thinking a racoon or some other animal that can climb a tree because my dogs woke me barking at the tree and seemed to believe something was in it. I could not see anything with a light.
I don't think at this point the product like new skin would be good only because if the wound has drainage you want it to continue to drain. Iodine watered down to look like weak tea is what I have always heard is good. maybe 2X ad day then use the neo type stuff in between. Great news that he is up and eating and has his mate with him, she will help him to heal by just being there. Sounds like your doing all you can and also sounds like he is on the mend. Thanks for giving update please continue them. As far as antibiotic it is up to you but as you know raccoons a pretty nasty if it was me I think I'd do a round at least what is recommend on the bottle.Hi Miss Lydia,
Thank you for your advice. We have him up in a secure place. There was very little to clean away from his wounds as the predator pretty well plucked all the feathers around the wounds. He is up and moving, eating and drinking. He has a mate and we have put her in with him. Don't know if it was a good idea but thought she could help keep him warm. I cannot afford a vet, but also do not have a vet locally that looks at birds especially "farm" ducks. No bones are pArotruding so we have wrapped his wing to his body, he's not really happy with this. We are going to continue to treat him with neosporin type antibiotic. Do you know if iodine is bad for them. One of our farm stores suggested using that to treat the wounds and prevent infection. Will go to coop for pencillin today, ours close at noon on saturdays. Also my son has a germacide spray that he was using on his dog for wounds it obtained fighting with one of their other dogs, it reminds me of a product called newskin for humans (has cloves in it); it forms a protective barrier; any option for using something like this. I know not to use pain relief or aloe vera.
Thanks again,
