Injured neck..?

We had a predator attack in which we lost one girl and have one that’s injured. When we found her she was laying with her head hanging down as if difficult to hold up. She can stand and move if she wants/needs to but is very slow to do so. When she does stand she can’t (or won’t) fully extend her neck. She doesn’t seem to have strength in her neck to hold it while feeding either. We brought her inside to get her out of the heat and away from the rest of the girls. Any advice to aid in her healing?

Treat her for shock. It may clear up some of her symptoms. Give her one cup of water with one teaspoon sugar and just a pinch of salt and baking soda to balance out the minerals needed to stabilize her.

Have you gone over her body head to toe to assess injuries? Look at the skin carefully for puncture wounds. Look for greenish bruising on legs and feet.

Thank you for the recipe to stabilize her. We did do an all over check and haven’t found any other types of wounds just a few broken feathers. She did flap her wings a few times too and they seemed fine.

Are you familiar with wry neck? Is can cause a twisted or limber neck from neck or head injury. If she continues to have those symptoms with her neck, sometimes giving human vitamin E400 IU along with human B complex 1/2 tablet daily can help. A small amount of scrambled/boiled egg for selenium is also helpful for the E. Internal injuries could also be common with a predator attack. Sorry that you lost a hen. Did the predator break into the coop or get to them outside?

It happened at dusk as they were making their way back to the coop. My LGD was across the field when the commotion started. He went after whatever it was but didn’t get to it in time.
