Sapphire our peahen injured her toe today when we were trying to catch her to transfer her to a bigger pen in the barn. We wanted to transfer them there so they would have a chance to interact with the chickens before we release them. The toe bled a lot and it looks like she caught the claw on something and pulled it; it doesn't look serious but it is painful and she either stands on one foot, walks gingerly, or lies down; she will not perch. We washed it with saline and applied neosporin this afternoon. i went out for evening feeding just now and she barely ate anything. What can i do, should we give her antibiotics in the water too and what is the dosage, and for how long? We have Duramycin and Oxytet 343. Also, it stresses her out to be handled, plus, she is in the new pen. i don't know if she can't perch or just doesn't want to perch on the new perch. Phoenix the peacock will not perch either but stays close to her. Please help soon as we will feel terrible if we did something stupid to this beautiiful bird. Also, should we treat the toe more than once a day, considering her considerable stress? She keeps putting her beak to the toe, too.
