Yesterday our 4 month old Pekin Jill was attacked by one of our dogs
I was able to get the dog to drop her, but she had a huge puncture wound to the chest, and smaller puncture wound on her back and one of her wings is askew (not dragging but unable to hold completely up) and not sure if broken or strained.
We cleaned the would with antiseptic spray, used some triple antibiotic ointment and packed the wound for an hour. We then removed the packing and dressing re-cleaned the wound and using the arm of a thermal shirt I cut off pulled that over her body to keep both her wing in place and the wound clean but not packed or dressed. The wound is draining and does seem better.
She is a smaller crate in the house on a towel over shavings with water and food available to her at all times.
She is also getting oral antibiotics (Doxycycline) in her water which she is drinking, though she is not eating.
I plan on putting her in a warm bath this evening before changing the sleeve/bandage she is in. Not sure if I should use Epsom salts or not.
I really wanted to get some feed back and see if anyone had some ideas/suggestions on what I could be doing better or more for her.
06-23-2013 UPDATE
She has improved, she is no longer dazed (in shock) she is alert, drinking and now eating a little (feed, peas and floating fish food), She has responded well to her 2x daily baths sans epsoms and though her large wound is ugly it is healing.
She is still weak on her right side and her wing is still askew. I can only hope it will heal with time.
I still would love feed back.
Many Thanks In Advance
