One of my quails flew out and injured herself. When I found her she was on the carpet (I raise them as pets indoors), and unable to walk. She's flopped on her side now. She was bleeding from her wing, but not much, so I applied some yunnan baiyao onto the wound. she's lying on her side nw. I think her feet are injured as well. I'm going to administer some turmeric; what else can i do? This is a pet quail, and she means a lot to me.

I'm so sorry. All I can say is they are tough little birds. We had one boy who hurt himself (I don't know how) and he was paralysed. He did recover and always walked a bit funny but he was fine. I've had another male scalped horrendously and he made a full recovery. I would just isolate her with food and water close by. Keep her warm and hopefully she'll be on the mend soon. They have good memories so her friends should remember her once she's better (they seem to have good memories) so don't worry about having to reintroduce her.

Thanks for your help!
So she's looking a bit better - she can stand now, but her right foot drags behind and is curled up. I'm afraid it could be broken, but this is the third time it's happened. The first was because of Marek's, which I healed her of with St. John's Wort and turmeric. The second had no explanation to it. She made a full recovery with turmeric. This is the third time her foot has had a problem. Should I make a splint for her? What should I do?

I'd just see how she goes. I think Mareks symptoms can re-occur so it may be from that. Just support her immune system and keep her quiet. Fingers crossed she'll be back to her old self soon.

Should I give her some vitamin D tablets?

I'm in a different country to you so I don't know your products, sorry. If it's made for chickens I would dilute it a lot before giving it to her. I do hope she gets better for you.

I had a bird that was also scalped from the others and survived a week and then we butchered him. Also another male had his neck torn open and scalped and is starting to heal I think that this breed of quail is real hardy. If the bleeding has stopped then it will heal and scab over and she should be fine. Hope this helps.

Putting corn starch on a bleeding wound will help it clot and stop - useful for dog nails if they're cut into the quick and bleed - corn starch can plug it. Same thing with a bleeding feather shaft although the birds usually preen it right off if they can reach it

Hope she's improving still :O

Thanks for all the input!

Her wing is fine now. It's her right foot that I'm concerned about. That foot is getting better every day, thankfully, but she mostly gets around by hopping. I'm pretty sure that the same foot has regained some strength over the past few days. Is there anything else I can do to help her? (food, supplements, etc.)

Should I make a splint for her?
