I had a group of lavender cochins, two males and 3 females. I have two more females that are almost old enough to go in there. But I decided that I would let two of the older girls go before introducing the two younger girls. I am breeding lavender and they are black and I just did not need them anymore. So I let them go to a new home. So that left just the two roos and one female for now in that pen. Well, my dh let them out to free range yesterday for a bit while I was at work. And the two boys attacked each other and are both really bloody on the comb/head area. One worse than the other. I have separated that one from the others and have cleaned him up and put antibiotic salve on the comb and everthing. He seems to be ok, just shaken up. The other roo is fine, just had blood on him, obviously from the injured boy. What would make them suddenly attack each other like that? They live together in the same pen/coop. Is it because I took the girls out and they were fighting over the one girl? I eventually want them all in one coop again, what can I do? Put the two girls in with the injured boy once he is better and then add all 3 to the main pen together? Or add the new girls to the main pen and then later add the one roo to the whole group? Any suggestions on helping his injuries heal would be great. Thanks.
