I went out today about an hour ago to the change water and my rooster had himself wedged in behind the waterer head down. I don't know how long he was like that but when I pulled him out the other rooster went at him and he jumped back in his hiding spot. When I pulled him out again his comb is all bloody and all his neck feathers have been pulled out. I think he has some injury around his vent too presumably when they couldn't get at his head they went for his exposed back end. I've separated him and stopped the bleeding on his comb with some cornstarch. He's drinking a lot of water with vitamins in it. I'm just wondering if I should wait until he's less shocked to clean him off really well or if it would be better to get it done now. Its pretty cold here and I don't know if I should risk him getting chilled. I will be keeping him in the house until he's healed all the way.

If you are keeping him inside I think it would be fine to wash him off once he settles down a little bit and give him a good blow dry haha but I would not put him back outside if it's cold where you are until he is 100% dry make sure you stick your fingers all the way down into the feathers to make sure he's dry down by the skin. I think once the bleeding has settled I would just check to see what the damage is clean them up add some antibiotic ointment that has no pain relievers in it and then keep doing what you're doing with vitamins electrolytes and food but I probably wouldn't keep him inside for too many days so that he doesn't have to readjust to the cold if it's really cold where you live. if it's pretty mild and headed towards Spring where you are I don't think it matters as much, and then before you put him back with the group put some blue kote on it to help deter more pecking and just keep doing wound care and watch for infections each day. I hope he feels better soon!
