My 13 year old pet rooster has been attacked by a wild rooster, and ripped up pretty good. Moving slow, and stumbling, one eye looks gone and his comb is ripped and bloody. What should I do for him?

Hopefully someone can help you here soon. What exactly do you mean by "wild rooster"? Do you have chickens other than pets?

Hi there,

Here's a link that explains what to do for a severely injured chicken:

Flush out the injuries with a sterile saline solution or betadyne solution then dress with neosporin if the injuries are not deep punctures (I don't recommend putting it in the eye socket):

Sterile saline solution: bring 8 oz. of water to a boil with 1/2 tsp of non-iodized salt. Boil for a few minutes and allow to cool, or

Betadine solution: Add to water until it is the color of tea.

You can give him aspirin for pain:

Aspirin: 1 baby aspirin in 1 cup water or up to 5 325 mg aspirins in a gallon of water

Good luck and let us know how he's doing.

Just remember you can't use the neosporin plus on chickens. That is the kind with the pain relief in it. You have to use the regular neosporin.
