It is hard not to intervene, but try not to. About three months ago our alpha roo (and my favorite) got sick to the point where we had to confine him to treat him. He had been the alpha roo for a few years but, when we finally let him out after three or four weeks, he was on the bottom of the pecking order. It hurt me to see him lose his hens, his sleeping position on the King"s Rafter in our barn, and to see him slinking around running from all the other roos. But, he is doing better. he now has the companionship of some hens, he has moved up a couple of slots on the pecking order, and the other roos have stopped bothering him, they coexist fairly peacefully. He may never be the alpha roo again, but he doesn't seem to mind too much.
