I’m sure this has been asked and answered in previous threads, but I’m too frazzled to search.

I noticed today my bourbon red hen was keeping to the corner of the turkey run and sort of hunched over. When I opened the door for free time, she didn’t come running, so I investigated and found blood on the ground. She has a fairly large open wound under the front/side of her wing (2x2” or so). I imagine this occurred when she was laying today and her a-hole husband tried to mate her. I don’t even know how he squeezed his chonky butt in her nesting area.

I brought her inside to assess and clean her wound. I removed as much of the stuck-on bedding as I could and applied liquid bandage for dogs and triple antibiotic. She’s secluded in the garage in an XL dog crate with feed and electrolytes in her water (although she shows zero interest in either).

Is there anything else I can do for her? And assuming she survives, where can I get a turkey saddle? Thank you!

I am more familiar with chickens, so I will refer you to the turkey forum here:

It sounds like a spur injury (I don’t even know if turkeys have spurs as chickens do.) Keep it clean, and Vetericyn or saline can be used to spray on the wound. The antibiotic ointment is helpful, and you can also use honey or medihoney.
