I found one of our hens like this this morning. She is in a coop with 8 other hens and one rooster. Impossible to tell which of them did this, or if she did it to herself? I have her separated with food and water in a large dog crate.
First aid ideas? Obviously needs some antiseptic and styptic powder/cream. Looks like there are a LOT of feathers missing from the wing. Do I wrap the whole wing against her body until the wound itself heals? Can I put a cone or something on her head? She’s been pecking at the wound.

It is probably from overmating by the rooster, and then the others may have further damaged it by pecking at the blood. I would use some saline or mild antiseptic spray on it, then triple antibiotic ointment twice a day. A tshirt tied over body may help to keep her from pecking it. Separate her in a wire dog crate with food and water near the others in sight. If the rooster is doing this to the others, he may need to be separated for awhile as well.

Got her cleaned and dressed - wrapped that wing down to her side with Coban, and she’s in a dog crate inside the run. The other wing is pretty thin/sparse, so hopefully it can start to regrow a bit while she’s separated. I have 4 other hens with bald backs from our rooster, but no blood/wounds. I ordered saddles for them.
