We have six New Hampshire Reds, one of which was attacked by a wandering dog two days ago while out scratching in our yard. When she reappeared late yesterday we saw that she has an area of roughly 1-1/2" sq. on her rump where the feathers have been pulled out. We've just noticed some of the other hens pecking at this area. Should we isolate her during the day, and if so, for how long? Should we apply antibiotic ointment to the sore? Will the feathers grow back?

You can hide the spot with Blukote. They won't pick at it if they don't notice it. The feathers will come back, but maybe not until she molts.

Good luck.
