California White Bullied and Now Injured

I’m sorry that happened. I have ‘t seen a wound do that before. Is there any way she could have hurt it more or pecked it? I wonder if it is a hematoma that was leaking? I am going to tag @azygous who has seen a lot of strange things in her years with chickens, to take a look at your pictures in post 6 and 8, and might know why it swelled and started leaking blood.

Chicks can hatch with genetic problems. This includes squamous cell carcinoma tumors. These tumors can appear on the inside of the body as well as anywhere on the outside of the body. The black raised lesion in a few of the photos appear to be squamous carcinoma. Likely this chick has tumors inside as well. This chick's future does not seem assured.

It's my guess this chick was hatched by a private breeder and was not culled as one from a hatchery would have been with this defect.

Sounds like this is spot on. She passed about 30 minutes ago. Thank you all for your suggestions to try and help.

This pullet was acquired at TS in NE. This was the only one of this particular breed we picked up and the remaining pullets all seem to be doing well.
