I had a neighbors dog kill 3 of my chickens 3 days ago, and just noticed one of my girls injured only today! I need advice on what to do with her wound.... it's very large and goes all the way across her back. It looks like some of the feathers have grown into it and I don't know if I should disturb it and pull away or just try and treat it as is?? It's obviously started healing that's why I don't know how to properly care for it at this stage. Any advice would be helpful. I used hydrogen peroxode and neosporin-then took a picture. She's acting very good considering.

Make sure treatment will not cause too much stress ...

Spray with betadine https://betadine.com.au/antiseptics/

If stress is not an issue remove anything inc feathers from the wound, if the skin is open and separated join back together it and tape it with micropore https://www.medshop.com.au/products/3m-micropore-tape.

Keep spraying it 2x daily till its healing well no sign of infection and nice and dry looking.

I would confine it so you can do daily treatments nice and easy and make sure its not getting picked on, and you can build it up with a good serve of food and maybe some vitamins etc ..

Sorry to hear about your event ... so sad.

HI,
Also try neosporin plain form Not with pain killer.
this will keep it moist
also the beta-dine you might want to dilute it.
make sure she stays warm inside, no flies on that wound.
I agree post the intestinal picture on Emergencies and start
a new thread there.
