Sadly, this bird was snatched by a fox quite a bit ago, but I recently joined this thread and was wondering if anybody would know what these injuries were on her. We got her from a feed store, which thinking back on it, it probably wasn't a good idea. She was cramped in with a lot of other chicks the same breed. She was a lot smaller than the others, and I'm assuming she was picked on. She was an Australorp, and she walked, ate, and drank just fine - didn't seem to be in pain. She had a patch with no fluff on her in the front, and at the base of her tail was this strange purple looking wound? The red glare from the heat lamp did the picture no justice - the injury on her back was literally a shade of deep purple. I really regret not looking into her injury when I had her - I didn't have enough experience then. Does anybody know what this was and what might have caused it?
