I have a 1 week old cornish cross with a large sore that I've been treating with neosporine. Please give me suggestions on treatment. I don't know how she got it.
What do you use for baby chick bedding? We are using the medium pine shavings and I am not a fan.
Chicks seem to eat them, especially the small pieces and they seem to chafe.
For 60 Cornish Cross, you're going to have a lot of poop and mess, so you may need to clean more frequently and make sure that bedding is super dry, see that water stations are not spilling. Refresh bedding frequently. We have 60 chicks. I don't think puppy pads would be economical. Biggest drawback is the mess and chafing.
Chicks of any breed are going to eat shavings, so I'd provide some chick grit, but with CornishX, I'd only give a small amount of grit since they eat SO much, they will chow down on the grit and then you'll have other problems.
For CornishX I'm not sure if I'd use bedding pellets, I can see where they would probably eat them or attempt to eat them, then you'll have issues there too.
Are you planning on tractoring and moving them once they get a few weeks old?
