Looking for input on my new proposed chicken coop. I'm at this and want to avoid as many mistakes as possible. My attachment shows 2 separate sketches, the top sketch is 16' wide x 10' deep and the 2nd sketch shows the coop at 16' wide x 8' deep, will the 2 feet make a difference in the long run?
Plan on having around 16 -20 hens and figured about 4.5 S/F per hen. Lowest roost bar will be 3' off the ground with a tray underneath it. I will have 12 nest boxes 4 boxes wide x 3 high and will also be 3' off the floor. Nest boxes will be accessible from inside the storage area of the coop. Venting will be accomplished through screened opening in the eves.
Coop will also have one exhaust fan located in the storage area of the coop, will be insulated with the interior walls finished in white Masonite and plan on using sand for the floor.
Questions:
1. What do you think about putting (2) windows directly behind the roost bars?
2. Whats better, pouring a concrete slab to set this on or framing out a wood floor?
3. Recommend wall height, 7' or 8' tall?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance...
