Can't finish today, its raining, not a great time to be running a gas powered gennie and power tools - and I need a few more materials from the store. Nor can I spray down with paint.

Started this yesterday afternoon, worked on it maybe 4 hours, alone. Hauling materials, rolling out the gennie and tools, etc. Involved almost no cuts. Footprint is approximately 10 x 16.

Will be a combined goat pen and additional duck/hen house in my second run.

Obviously, my very forgiving climate makes this design possible, where it might not be appropriate for the conditions you face. For a start, my overhangs on this build are almost non-existent. That's not something I normally recommend. Nor is this going to be (though it could be) completely hardware cloth secured against predators. I'm willing to take more risks in that regard than most (for this pen only).

Anyhow, this is the next step, should take a few more hours, once I have materials...

I put my support posts and my rafters in the same vertical plane, 2" inboard from the outer skin of the hardieboard walls. Why? Because down the road, I will have the budget, and the need to expand. So...

Set two posts, screw up a ledger board, hang a few rafters, and I can easily extend it 8 or 12 foot to either side - though it does get shallow if I keep the same roof angle.

Including setting the posts?
What kinda coffee you drinkin'!?
Posts are set to depth, but they are NOT concreted in. I let them float so I could true up the framing (I did get them mostly plumb while erecting it) using the hardieboard as a reference. They are sitting on gravel in the bottom of the holes. Now I can pour in redi-set and wet the ground, and its good to go.

Again, it helps that I have no frost line, and sandy clay soils here. Though my shoulder tells me I dug a lot of holes. I also set 8 poles for my grapes yesterday.

Open to good ideas for QUICK non-build nesting boxes. I gave thought to just mounting some 5 gallon buckets, but they seem small for my CornishX, Brahma, even one or two of the others.

Any other quick and dirty ideas before I frame this up?
