I have a coop already. It was here when we bought the home. It is sheet metal & wood. It is not insulated for the winter. I have 2 infrared heat lamps. Do I need more? Should I eventually insulate the coop?

Thank you,

I’m just guessing your weather may be somewhat similar to mine. As long as they are more than 6 weeks old, they do not need any supplemental heat and you do not need to insulate the coop, at least not for the chickens’ sake. If you are going to be out there wearing a short sleeves or something like that, you might need to do something for you, but they are already wearing a down coat. You make it too warm and they’ll be uncomfortable.

I took this photo when it was 4 degrees above zero Fahrenheit a few years ago. I leave the pop door open and let them decide what they want to do. You can see what they chose.
