Insulation for Olympia, WA??

Howdy to all my fellow Washingtonian chicken fans!

I'm fairly new to chicken keeping, but can report we had just moved our 2 1/2 month old pullets out to our new coop, not insulated, just as that last week and a half of snow/freeze/sleet/windstorms hit!

I was very worried about them being warm enough and wondered if we needed to rig up a heat lamp the breeder told us a regular incandescent lamp would generate plenty of heat if needed- but not to worry - I just kept the coop closed and they were plenty warm enough.

Even today, chilly windy and wet they chose to be outside for a good part of the day, we did elevate the coop so they have shelter, but even at the "fuzzy butt" stage, they seem to have enough feathers to keep warm.

You are right about Craigslist - that is where we found our pullets and are really happy with them!
