Integrated new chicks

Oh! That’s a great idea! To force them into the big coop nesting boxes to start laying.
Here is my run/coops. The one thing I wish I had done is to do the run floor in concrete before letting the birds in. We have lots of racoons who like to dig, but I did not think the chickens would dig from the inside of the run! I might be going through this summer to redo this, but it would have been way easier at the beginning.

There are sun shades you can purchase on Amazon (Amazon, stealing all my $$ for chickens 😂), but I zip ties a sheet up on one end in the summer to give them shade. Also, the nest boxes are amazing. They're easy to keep clean and out of the way of everything so the eggs stay clean, too.

Here is what the inside of the little coop looks like when I remove the flooring. I have to put a small piece of hardware cloth in the slits on the sides of the coop (where the floor would slide in), and I screw in the sides of the low roosting bars so they don't fall, but the birds love it and it gives me easy access for petting them/visiting with them in the winter.
