I have s single cornish x 9 months old laying 4-5 eggs a week (Big Momma). 7 weeks ago I got 6 chicks
3 speckled sussex
2 welsummer
1 rir
After feathering out-about 5 weeks ago I moved crated chicks into coop with big momma, she watched and nosed around. After a few days, I let big momma out to free range, closed pop door, let chicks out to explore run and coop (6 days), then chicks go to coop (it's elevated big momma can't get to it) and big momma comes in to run at night.
Yesterday I opened run and let everyone free range, end of day, chicks in coop, big momma on her roost, pop door closed.
She still pecks at them when they get too close, they're too quick for her.
Today, everyone out eating from same plate, chicks go to old calf pen to explore. Big momma looks around, no chicks, she looks barns over, no chicks, coop, no chicks. She finally sees them in calf pen, and goes to join them. I think its successful.
