Hey guys! My silkies (4) our officially in the run with chickens that are two weeks older than them. Which includes 3 bantams and 3 big hens. 2 of the bantams are roosters and are actually bullying the other bantam in the flock... so I'm taking precautions on introducing my silkies. (Pretty sure there is at least one Roo in the silkies flock too)! Anyways, I'm aware I have too many Roos and plan to re- home all but one.

I have my silkies in two BIG dog crates combined with tie scraps. One end covered with tarp and also a metal roof on top. At night I'm covering the other end with arrow to protect and keep them safe... STILL leaving ventalation in parts of the top.

Am I doing this right? (First time chicken mom and I'm so obsessed with my. Abuse and want the very best for them!!

How long should I leave them I. The dog crates? Should hey always sleep separate?

Also: Georgia heat is NO joke. I've been putting Ice in their water bowls. Freezing salad leaves in ice cubes and also freezing some of their foods. Also froze a gallon jug and water bottles to leave around the yard. Any other recommendations?

-- have a battery operated fan on the way.

WE ALSO HAVE A FLY PROBLEM.. naturally-- any advice on that?? BESIDES putting fish guts in jars... not an option. Yuck!

Thanks for ALL the help!
