Intelligence of Silkies?

They do seem dumb, but we sure get a lot of laughs out of them

They are funny. Mine don't have the greatest topknots right now, they're nearly bald from being plucked half to death by a rooster at their previous home. Tonight when I was making sure everyone was in bed, I realized that when the Silkies get startled, they all hide their heads and pretend it's ok! I scared them when I came in the coop and they all shoved their heads into the straw and went perfectly still!

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, mine tend to hide their heads like Ostrich. When I call them in at night I use a broom to gently guide my chicks into the porch at night. All the other chicks come running and they stand there looking around. When I gently touch them with the broom they bury their heads and look like giant dust bunnies. It's funny as all get out to see. I usually end up picking them each up and bringing them in. I think the haircut thing is in order because they will bump into things and they walk along the fence or wall like blind people. It's not as bad with the ones that have shorter foof around the face. Not ever having Silkies before I thought it was just mine... They are so da@# cute - you just want to squeeze them!!!!

Silkies are as smart as any other chicken, but I notice that they are more fragile, cannot fly or jump high and, often, are blinded by their head feathers. Mine has difficulties with the ramps because she is afraid of falling off.

Now that I think of it, mine is actually smart enough to know I will pick her up and put her on the perch, and she even makes this very particular noise when she wants my help.
