Do you think you could keep a starter culture going inside in a fish tank or something over the winter? Or does it show up naturally pretty consistently?

Starter cultures for what I think is Lemna minor are easy to maintain. Better to have more than one in case a culture crashes which does happen. I have been using 10-gallon aquariums outfitted with an light typically used for such tanks. Keep tank only about half full and fill with water siphoned from a well fed fish tank.

Great, thanks! Do you do anything for aeration in the aquarium, or does it just need to not have a lid on it?

Aeration I have used was little more than an tube weighted down without a diffuser. I have cultured with and without lids. Only difference was lid made for warmer and slower evaporation rate.
