Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Given the winter temperatures in your area, you need to make certain you get a cold hardy breed. Alaska Backyard Chickens has a published a list of recommended breeds for Alaska's cold climate at http://akchickens.org/getting-started/recommended-breeds/. If these breeds can handle Alaska's winters, they should be able to handle your winters without any problem. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can.
