Interested in raising chickens

Thanks for your input! 24 birds!? Seems like a lot for a beginner but maybe someday. Are there any negatives of keeping a smaller number say 10 hens in a 10x10 stall? I guess I’m thinking of warmth in winters? I am in central New York State
I'm in the Southern Tier of NY.
No negatives to that many birds in that much space. Only positives.
Birds are their own little blast furnaces. They keep themselves warm by fluffing up their feathers. As long as there are no drafts strong enough to blow open their feathers, they will be fine.
You need lots and lots of good ventilation to bring in fresh air and the coop needs to be DRY. You do that and your flock will be fine.

Hello and welcome to BYC! We're so glad you joined us!
Making your coop from a barn stall is a wonderful idea. If you browse around through the coop pages you should be able to find several coops made this way. Perhaps it can give you some ideas. Good luck with your build. :)
