Thank you for your time to answer!

Please see my last post for the answer.

one cup, one gallon..it does not matter how big your part is.. it wills till have the same percentage of protein as your LARGE bushel or bag.
1 - 50lb bag of XXX grain is 8% protein and so is 1 cup of XXX grain(same grain) too (as would be one shoefull, one handfull, one hatfull, one bucketfull, one mouthful

Just a suggestion/question: I retain all bones, skin, and giblets not eaten when I cook chicken. 30 minutes in a small pressure cooker turns it into something that can be pulverized with your fingers. Feeding this to my dog, I never have to worry about the problem with bones splintering. Why could I not (should I not) feed this mash to my chickens for added protein and calcium? It would be considered sterile after this amount of pressure cooking so I would not be introducing any bacteria back to the chickens. Any thoughts?

If your ok with feeding chicken to chicken, I'd have to say it sounds fine... essentially your providing minced meat and bone meal in a powdered form. Simple and economical. I believe this is a perfect example of making use of what you have, and why there are so many variations on how to best care for your chickens.

Finding what you have locally and using what you have on hand are THE BEST ideas!

Thank you so much for the "PARTS" lesson!
It is really helpful, and very "recipe" style!
Makes it easier to "cook up a batch"!
Any tips on adding more protein to a mix?
I can get corn/oats in bulk, what can I add to these to get more protein?
THANK YOU!

I am new to this. I have had my chickens about a year now. I wanted to sprout barley for my chickens but I did not buy 'whole' barley and now I have a big bag of barley that doesn't sprout. Can I add this to my chicken feed? Where can I find 'whole' barley?
