Interesting! Chick hatched outside egg

Whats the purposes of the disinfectant at the bottom of the cup and the calcium lactate?
I imagine the egg shell must be used by the embrio for whatever little amount of calcium it could from it?

The disenfectent must be so the water in the bottom wont get bacteria. dont kno of that would help the chick or not

I saw this a few days ago. People in the comments said they tried it and hatch rates were extremely low, you would be lucky to get 50% of the eggs to hatch. It is still a very cool experiment. It would be cool to see this done with a duck or larger bird like and emu but emu eggs are hard enough to incubate inside of the shell so that will probably never happen...
