On July 29, 2019, I candled this egg and thought that this was an odd spot for the bill, so I decided to make a hole where the arrows are:

Once opened a little, I realized it wasn't the bill, it was the hock joint, which meant the duckling was upsidedown. :hit So I made the decision to peel away the shell to expose the bill. The duckling hadn't pipped internally yet, so I made a hole in the membrane so it could breathe and I covered the rest of the membrane with Neosporin and put it back in the incubator.

On July 30, 2019, I removed the membrane in the am, then in the evening I removed the shell and the rest of the membrane and put it back in the incubator.

Here is the duckling on 7/31/2019 - It's very weak, so I will probably give it some NutriDrench and fluids orally.

I cannot think of anyone more capable than you to take care of this little cutie pie

What a lucky duckling!
I assume nobody but you would have had those steel wire nerves, necesary to peel away so much of an egg shell and continue to incubate…
You can name her/him UpSideDown Duck if it survives.

Steel wire nerves, lol, I was quite nervous doing it but since there were no big veins I figured it was safe to do.

Oh dear, poor little guy! Hope he pulls through for you! Great job getting him out. <3

I had one who was upside down as well awhile back. She did make an external pip, but not where her air cell was! I read through the assisted hatch page that was linked here and was able to slowly help her out over the next day or so. Never thought in a million years she would make it, but I knew I at least had to try! She turns 5 years old next month and is my best friend. <3 (She's also the little duckling in my avatar.)
